On the occasion of Nicholas Rescher's sixtieth anniversary as a teacher of philosophy and on the eve of his fiftieth year of service to the University of Pittsburgh, this workshop will focus on some issues addressed in his many publications on the subject, including Scientific Explanation (1970), Scientific Progress (1973), The Limits of Science (1984), Scientific Realism (1987), and Nature and Understanding (2000).
