Location:    Miami, Florida

Organization's Mission:    The American Red Cross of Greater Miami & the Keys (www.miamiredcross.org) is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers. Their mission is to provide relief to disaster victims and help the South Florida Community prevent, prepare, and respond to emergencies.

Nature of the Work:    Disaster relief efforts, such as installing hurricane shutters, assisting with disaster mitigation work in schools, and general clean up.

Transportation   Commercial airline and on-site van rental.

Accommodations:    Staying at a youth hostel. Meals will be prepared as a group.

Possible Activities:    Miami offers a large variety of activities, such as swimming, snorkeling, and sight seeing.

Number of Participants:    12

Cost:    $350 per person*

Duration of the trip:    Tentative plans are to leave Pittsburgh Saturday, March 2 and return on Sunday, March 10

Special Considerations:    Group fundraising will be available to offset some of the project cost. Participants must be willing to work outdoors.  Tetanus must be current before volunteering at the project site.    

            There are 2 spots reserved for 21 year olds willing to drive a van.


    * Program cost includes Student Government Board’s funding.
