Habitat for Humanity

 

Location:    Gainesville, Florida


Site Leaders:    Jonathan Weir and Isabell Wick


Organization's Mission:    Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable, housing a matter of conscience and action.


Nature of the Work:    Construction of new homes in an urban area of Gainesville.


Transportation:    Driving in a van; approximately a 17-hour drive, spread over a 2-day driving period with an overnight stay at a hostel in North or South Carolina.


Accommodations   We will be staying in a private home with a kitchen, bathroom and showers provided. Meals will be prepared as a group. Sleeping bag required.


Possible Activities:    Gainesville is a major city in upper Florida and is located close to the University of Florida and about an hour from the beach. There are also opportunities to explore the city.

Duration of the trip:    Saturday, March 2 - Sunday, March 10


Special Considerations
:    Habitat is a non-denominational program that does offer OPTIONAL reflectional/devotional time at the beginning of each work day. This project involves physical labor. Tetanus must be current before volunteering at the project site.

             There are 3 spots reserved for 21 year olds willing to drive the van.
