Momentum AIDS Project

Location:    New York City, New York

Site Leaders   Marci Koltonuk and Patrice Lehocky

Organization's Mission   The Momentum AIDS Project (www.momentumaidsproject.org) works for the health and wholeness of individuals and families affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Momentum is one of New York's oldest and largest AIDS service providers and is a nationally recognized agency specializing in food, nutrition and supportive counseling services for people living with HIV and AIDS.

Nature of the work:    Preparing and serving fresh, nutritious meals to people with AIDS/HIV at various sites in NYC. Minimal clean up afterwards.

Transportation:    Greyhound bus; approximately 10 hours. We will be traveling by Greyhound because parking in NYC is very expensive. We will be walking and using the subway/bus system while in the city.

Accommodations:    Staying at a youth hostel. Meals will be prepared as a group.

Possible Activities:    New York City offers a large variety of activities. As a group, we can determine what we'd like to do when we are not volunteering at the site.

Number of Participants:    10

Cost:    $150 per person*

Duration of the trip:    Saturday, March 2 - Saturday, March 9

Special Considerations:    New York City is very large and very urban, so it will be important for our group to travel together within the city. Fundraising is available to offset some of the costs.

    * Program cost includes Student Government Board’s funding.
