Organization's Mission:    The mission of the National Audubon Society is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds and other wildlife for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity.  Part of our efforts will be focused on the Research Ranch (www.audubon.org/local/sanctuary/appleton), which serves as a wildlife sanctuary to provide refuge to a broad diversity of native plants and animal species, especially those not adapted to certain human activities.
 

Nature of the Work   Tasks may include, but are not limited to constructing waterholes for wildlife; building wildlife-friendly fences; renovating ranch facilities; removing exotic plants from the sanctuary; and working in the native plant gardens.
 

Transportation:    Commercial airline and van rental in Phoenix, Arizona; approximately 4 hours by air and 2 hours of driving.
 

Accommodations:    Bunk housing with equipped kitchen and laundry facilities.  Meals will be prepared as a group.
 

Possible Activities:    Visiting surrounding wildlife sanctuaries and canyon areas, exploring nearby towns, hiking, etc.

Cost:    $340 per person*
 

Duration of the trip:    Saturday, March 2 - Sunday, March 10
 

Special Considerations:    Project involves physical labor.  Tetanus must be current before volunteering at the project site.  Fundraising is available to offset some of the costs.
 

            There are 2 spots reserved for 21 year olds willing to drive a van.


    * Program cost includes Student Government Board’s funding.  Cost may fluctuate based on airfare.
