edited by Carlos Augusto Sánchez
The production of resources to satisfy basic natural and social needs and the pursuit, consolidation, and preservation of power in communities have been constant facts of social reproduction and evolution. As social factors they express a rich diversity in permanent transformation in their historic configurations as well as in their articulations with the dynamics of social relations. The articles in this volume offer abundant and diverse information that reflects the variety of singular expressions of these facts in relation to regionally integrated complex societies. The geographical contexts addressed by the authors are Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, and China, and the cases focus on different strategies to achieve social control, and, consequently, they show diverse degrees of political integration, socioeconomic differentiation, complexity, and variety of production processes.
