El fardo funerario de la Tumba 1 de Calakmul: Conservación, restauración y montaje

by Renata Schneider

The discovery of the funerary bundle of Tomb 1 within Structure XV at Calakmul presented an array of problems of conservation. The body (adult, possibly female) was wrapped in latex strips, something not seen in other burials known to Mesoamerica at the time. Ceramic artifacts, a funerary mask, shells, and even a cape made from more than 370 plaques of Spondylus shell were part of the assemblage. The complete process, from the excavation of the tomb to the analysis and stabilization of the offerings in the funerary bundle, took ten years and is described in this volume. In Spanish.
