Corazón de Cópil

by Bárbara Dahlgren, Emma Pérez-Rocha, Lourdes Suárez Diez, and Perla Valle

Huitzilopochtli surprises and kills Cópil, his nephew, son of Malinalxóchitl, and orders his priests to run and take his heart and throw it in a sacred place among the tulares. From Cópil's heart the nopal, where the eagle would land and the future city of Mexico-Tenochtitlan would be founded, was born. This volume contains an analysis of twenty-one sources written in the 16th century, which in one way or another deal with what was then known of the heart of the ancient Tenochtitlan: its Sacred Precinct with its Templo Mayor and numerous buildings, as well as the surrounding governmental structures. The texts are accompanied by a selection of illustrations of prehispanic buildings and by plans of the first Spanish city. In Spanish.
