A detailed analysis of the professionalization of anthropology and archaeology in Mexico, based on period testimonies contained in, among other sources, the Ezequiel A. Chávez collection of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the Bildarchiv Seler in the Iberoamerikanisches Institut, Berlin, and the Boas Papers of the American Philosophical Society Library, Philadelphia. The author, renowned for her investigations on the links between foreign and Mexican scholars in the 20th century, explores the educational policies and administration of the Museo Nacional, the Escuela Internacional de Arqueología y Etnología Americana, and the Escuela de Altos Estudios. It is in these three institutions where many intellectuals of the 19th and 20th centuries collaborated. There is also an abundance of data on amounts of grants, budgets, names of students and professors, etc. The volume is complemented by graphic materials which show a generation that is part of Mexican culture today.
