Volcanoes and Volcanic Features

People love volcanoes because they are beautiful and deadly. What more could one ask for? Once you learn to recognize the basic igneous rock types plus the various type of lava flow features shown below, you can visit any given volcano and rapidly assess whether it is one that has probably had extremely violent eruptions in the past or one that had gentle but voluminous flows of lava streaming down its sides. This will give you something to think about as you climb the sides up toward the summit.
