Timothy Zahn was born and raised in Chicago. He earned a B. S. in Physics from the University of Michigan, and an M. S. in Physics from the University of Illinois. He began writing science fiction as a hobby, and in 1978 he sold his first short story to the science fiction magazine Analog.
His novels include five in the Star Wars universe, the series in universes of his own making, and a handful of other books.
