The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh
The Carnegie Library of
Pittsburgh is Allegheny County (Pennsylvania)'s free public library
system. Construction on the Main Branch in the Oakland neighborhood began
in 1893.
Andrew Carnegie, who provided the City of Pittsburgh $1 million to build
and equip six branches, dedicated the Main Branch in 1895. Today, the system
includes a total of 20 branches, including a Library for the Blind. And last
