Either yield to me the daie, or I will bang thy back and sides, said by a well-known character, Robin Hood. That was the first time the word bang was acknowledged as a true word in the English language in 1550. The meaning to it is, to strike violently with a resounding blow: to thrump, thrash (Bang, OED). Its not commonly used in that style of meaning today, because other words have replaced it such as, pound, hit, or slam him. But bang has taken a new hit of a meaning in a teenagers eye, but in an adults sense, they dont have a clue what it stands for now, and they really should.
The slang term of the word band, is banggin. Banggin has a couple different definitions to it. To quote something that looks cool, such as a nice car is, that car is banggin. But that is not the only meaning of the slang term banggin. It can also have a meaning dealing with an injured body part or a kind of food that is tasty. Examples for each can be said like my knee is banggin man, or that food is banggin.
However, before the word banggin ever existed, its root word bang had a couple different definitions to it. The first one was referred early in the passage, as to strike violently with a resounding blow. But in 1787 another definition came upon by the meaning of a violent action producing loud noise. First used in the quote, A most complicated sonata, banged off on the chimes. But yet again in the year of 1882, it was used as another definitions also. He was bareheaded, his hair banged even with his eyebrows in front. The definition for the word bang, referring to the last quote is, to cut (the front hair) square across, so that it ends abruptly (Bang OED).
So you can see that words change their meaning all the time, as years go on. For the slang term banggin, became popular only a few years ago. I dont recall how long ago that the first time Ive heard the word used in a statement, but I do remember one of my friends starting to use it all the time, and that was only 2 years ago. Right now, it is a commonly used slang term used within my group of friends, and when I hear it, it sounds just like a normal word. Thats why, not only kids should know what it stands for. It could spice up conversations in the older age group, with using new words.
In another point of view, banggin can be replaced several times with other slang terms, and have the same impact as banggin does. Such as, my knee is banggin, you can replace banggin with the word jacked, and it has the same meaning to it. Also, restating the quote, that car is banggin, you can say, That car is tight. So you can see that there are different slang words out there that have the same meaning as others.
As time goes on, new slang words will be formed. Its been changing from generation to generation now, form groovy to banggin, new slang words will be created, and the old ones will be forgotten. Only time will tell, until the next group of slang will be formed, and the next thing you know, the word happy might mean sad, as bad has been referred to as good.
