shady

There are many words that we use in our culture today that give a new approach to the English language. We call these words slang. Slang according to the Webers's  New World Pocket Dictionary is defined as vigorous, short-lived informal language. One of the main reasons we use slang is because of the regional acceptance of the words and also because of the fact that it's simpler and sounds better than using proper English.

One of these words that many teenagers use in their everyday speech is Shady. The noun form of this word is shade. The adjective form is to create shade for a person, place or thing. According to the Oxford English Dictionary the word shady was first used in 1579 by a man named Cal Sheph Spenser and he was referring to naked trees whose shady leaves are lost.

My friends and I have used this word for about three years now and I thought it would be interesting to figure out were this word originated from. In school I can remember calling people shady because they were ignoring the ideas I had or what I had to say. Also shady people are people that cannot be trusted easily.  No matter how you use this would or were it orginated from shady is a excellect way to state how you feel about a person. Even after three years I still here this word on a regular basis and I still feel that it should be introduced into dictionaries.    My personal definition is to act rudely or disrespectful towards a
person's action or speech, and also to be cold towards a person.  Many people have come up with their own definitions of the word shady throughout the years. One way to use this word is when you are referring to the area covered by the leaves of a tree or object because of a form of light.(Oxford English Dictionary) The shady trees covered the man while he slept.  Another intresting way of using this word is when you are talking about a person who is not an upstanding respectable citizen. (Oxford English Dictionary) I wish I didn't lend my money to that shady man, I hope I get it back. According to the Oxford English dictionary the word shady also means affording shade and  shaded or protected by shade. Cassell's dictionary of Slang stated that shady meant uncertain, unreliable, and stupid. People's past perceptions as well as present-day perceptions of this word seem to be closely related to one another. Because this word is so easily understood it can be brought into the English language without difficulty. In conclusion shady is a word that has been making it easier for people to express what's on their minds since the early centuries. By bringing this word into the English language today we can create a new innovative way to tell people what's on their minds.
