Lecture Description:
This lecture is
designed to introduce the basic concepts underlying injury surveillance.
Identifying and monitoring the frequency in which injuries occur is the
building block for future injury prevention. This lecture will overview
methods and approaches used to monitor injuries in the community. It
concludes with an overview of the underlying factors influencing the
numerator and denominator of injury statistics.
On completion of the
lecture, readers will be able to:
- Recognize the value of monitoring injury frequency
- Understand approaches to identify and monitor injuries
- Identify settings in which injury surveillance takes place
- Understand issues related to numerators and denominators in injury
statistics.
