According to Webster’s Seventh Collegiate Dictionary, “research”
is defined as “studious inquiry or examination; especially investigation
or experimentation aimed at the discovery and interpretation of facts,
revision of accepted theories or laws in the light of new facts, or practical
applications of such new or revised theories or laws”. Research is a process
of exploration and discovery. This symposium highlights student class
projects and independent research projects. The class projects range
from a library research paper to a proposal for a research project, from
a laboratory experiment to an investigation for a field course. The
student research projects are the culmination of one or more semesters’
work by students working individually or as part of a team. Some
of these projects were conceived, researched, designed and executed entirely
by the student under the faculty mentor’s supervision. Others represent
a student’s investigation into a problem related to the faculty mentor’s
research. This symposium celebrates the students’ accomplishments. |
