Dennis Galletta is President-Elect of AIS, is an AIS Fellow and is Professor of Business Administration at the Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh, where he has been since 1985. He has fond memories of the time he spent with a great set of colleagues at the Fox School of Business and Management, Temple University during the 2004-2005 academic year. He obtained his doctorate in 1985 at the University of Minnesota (major advisor: Gordon B. Davis) with a major in management information systems and a minor in psychology. His specific research interests lie in the areas of end-user attitudes, behavior, and performance. He teaches Human-Computer Interaction to PhD, MBA, and undergraduate students, Information Systems to MBA students and executives, and Electronic Commerce to MBA students and executives. He has published articles in journals such as Management Science, Information Systems Research, Journal of MIS, Journal of AIS, Communications of the ACM, Communications of the AIS, Decision Sciences, Accounting Management and Information Technologies, and Data Base, and also published a textbook with Prentice-Hall (long ago). He served as editor of SIGOIS Bulletin, the newsletter of the ACM Special Interest Group on Office Information Systems, and is, or has been, on the editorial boards of journals such as Information Systems Research (AE, 2006-present), Canadian Journal of Administrative Science (AE, 2006-present), Data Base,(AE 1993-1995; SE 1996-present), Journal of AIS (board member, 2005-present), International Journal of Information Systems and Management (2006-present), Information Systems and eBusiness Management (board member, 2003-present), Cycle Time Research (AE, 1996-present), and MIS Quarterly (AE, 1999-2002). He and Ping Zhang recently edited two books on HCI in MIS, part of the Zwass Advances in MIS series. They were fortunate to have gotten 37 fine manuscripts from 72 authors, most who require no introduction. Many reflect on their specialty areas of a decade or more of work! Please request one of each for your library! He is also an active reviewer for 10 other journals and several conferences. He is recuperating from serving as co-program chair of ICIS 2005 with David Avison. For a recent AMCIS conference in August 2003, he served as co-program chair with Jeanne Ross. He is the Editor-In-Chief of ISWorld. He served as the ICIS Treasurer from 1994-1998, chaired the Inaugural AIS Americas Conference on Information Systems in 1995, was VP of Member Services for AIS from 2001-2003, was a member of AIS Council representing the Americas in 1996 and 1997, and taught information systems courses on the Fall 1999 voyage of Semester at Sea. As a CPA, he has public accounting experience and has taught Continuing Professional Education courses for the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs and Half Moon Seminars. On Sunday evenings, he used to teach 10th, 11th, and 12th grade CCD (during various years) at St. Catherine of Sweden Church in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, where he also served on the Finance Committee.

Rumors: I have just become aware that there are rumors circulating that I was an Associate Professor for a long time because Pitt blocked my promotion for many years. That rumor is entirely false, and Pitt has treated me very fairly over the years. I did not go up for Full Professor earlier because I did not believe my case was worthy of promotion until the one and only time I put the paperwork together for Pitt. Also, I would like to make it clear that I spent a wonderful year at Temple University, and thoroughly miss the fine set of colleagues that I had for that year. My decision to return to Pittsburgh was a very difficult one indeed, as I learned that there are terrific colleagues in multiple places. Wherever you happen to go, make the best of it, and you'll only be happy where you decide to be happy.

Publicity: Who says experiments only focus on minor, uninteresting minutia? Actually, it's really fun but hectic when the popular press becomes interested in an academic study. Thanks to our PR people here at Katz, a few of my studies were publicized. See my Publicity can Help page. On a more serious note, press coverage helps put the Dean into a more sympathetic frame of mind when making decisions that can be influenced by perceptions of the value of MIS.

Hobbies: Among my interests are photography, food, and home theater video/audio, with an eye toward the high definition schedules each night. Some of the older photos are courtesy of a Polaroid negative and slide scanner, which does a much better job than a flatbed scanner. However, a digital camera still provides the best digital photo for this consumer. I have started keeping a list of my favorite restaurants throughout the world. I also have a web site with peoples' recommendations of best restaurants in Oakland and nearby in Pittsburgh.

Semester at Sea: A distant but extremely vivid and fond memory is my family's trip on Semester at Sea. To help me process the adventure, I built a site during the trip, heading for an Internet cafe at each of the 10 ports over the 14 weeks armed with floppy disks and WS_FTP. Three computers, a digital camcorder, and a CD burner helped make the site possible. See the site at http://www.pitt.edu/~atsea for about 500 photos including commentary of the journey.

Old Man of the Sea: If you don't recognize me, move your mouse over any links in the top section of this page and see what I looked like before ICIS 1997, where I shaved off my beard at the conference! I grew the beard in 1981 and it was a shock to my family when they picked me up at the airport baggage area. Thanks are due to Maha El Shinawy and Sidne Ward for providing the first unambiguous and enthusiastic advice to shave it off when they were informally questioned during a break. Thanks are also due to Vivek Choudhury for furnishing his shaver and shaving creme. Thanks are also needed for my family for tolerating the change. I'd like to give special thanks to Peter Polak for his expert photo editing (he removed my beard from one photo and placed it on a newer one before I began using Photo Shop).
