J. Stewart, Essential Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 2nd edition.

The 1st edition or any other edition is also OK.

Homework

All graded homework will be done online using the LON-CAPA system. Please do not neglect it!

Although homework counts for only 10%, in many cases these 10% decide whether you receive an A or a B. It also shows your attitude toward the course, which is important in borderline cases.

Calculators

Calculators are not allowed on quizzes or exams, although problems in LON-CAPA often require a calculator.

On exams and quizzes, you do not have to simplify the final answer or give a decimal approximation. I want to see that you know how to solve the problems; simplification of the final answer is irrelevant here.

If one midterm is missed

There is no makeup exam for a missed midterm. If you miss one midterm, your grade will be based on:

Quizzes

General policy

Quizzes will be given during Thursday recitations.

There are no makeup quizzes, but the lowest two quiz scores will be dropped. This allows you to miss two quizzes without penalty.
