As promised, here is an explicit, random scheme for pairing up students in the class with editors.

I have numbered the students alphabetically as

The normal, decimal expansion of π is

π =3.14159 26535 89793 23846 26433 83279 50288 ...

This gives us a sequence of random digits, 0, 1, 2, ..., 9. However we need random digits 0, 1, 2, ..., 9, A, B. So instead we write π in base 12 arithmetic:

π = 3.18480 9493B 91866 4573A 6211B B1515 51A05 ...

We now have the sequence of digits

3 1 8 4 8 0 9 4 9 3 B 9 1 8 6 6 4 5 7 3 A 6 2 1 1 B ...

Eliminate duplications from the sequence:

This gives us the pairs:
