Written Professional Communcation

This course gives you the opportunity to work seriously on your reading and writing while you are learning about the standards and assumptions of American professional communities. You will create documents in specific professional genres--memos, letters, resumes, reports, and so on--but you'll also, and more importantly, learn how and why professional communication functions:

  • what forms professional writing can take
  • how professional writing is different from academic writing
  • what audiences need and expect from texts in a professional setting
  • what makes visual elements powerful for your readers how to reliably research and support your professional writing
  • what on the page makes your style of writing easier to read and understand
  • how you can proofread and edit your writing to ensure its correctness.

You can find resources for profesional writing and examples of different types of professional writing on the PPW Community website.
