Principal investigator of three NIH-FUNDED R01 grants: a study of the familial clustering of autoimmune diseases and two international investigations of the genetic determinants of IDDM incidence, one of which is a sub-project for the
WHO Multinational Project for Childhood Diabetes, known as the WHO DiaMond Project. More than 20 countries are participating in this study. Also serves as Director of Molecular Epidemiology for the WHO Collaborating Center for Diabetes Registries, Resea
rch and Training. Areas of research include international studies of the molecular epidemiology of IDDM and other autoimmune diseases, and their impact on women’s health. Teaches a graduate course in molecular epidemiology and serves as faculty advisor
to masters and doctoral students in epidemiology and human genetics. Coordinates international training programs in molecular epidemiology, as the Director of the International Molecular Epidemiology Task Force.
