Educational Background

Graduated in 1970 from North Star High School as class Salutatorian. Activities included cheerleader, Student Council, Chorus, Yearbook, and National Honor Society. Recipient of leadership, athletic, foreign language and English awards.

An April, 1995 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. Activities included cheerleading and a member of the honorary fraternity Phi Theta Kappa at the Pitt-Johnstown campus. Member of the Medical Technology student bowl team (scholastic competition) at the Oakland Campus.

August 1975, passed the ASCP Certification Registry for Medical Technology. Registry number 100468.

May, 1989 obtained a Pennsylvania Level 1 Instructional Certificate in Secondary Science through the Post Baccalaureate Teacher's Certification Program at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Work Experience

Employed during college in various positions such as music store clerk, lifeguard, and student work study laboratory assistant.

May 1975 to January 1977: Medical Technologist in the Chemistry department of the Altoona Hospital, Altoona, PA.

January 1977 to August 1977: Assistant Supervisor, Chemistry Department, Altoona Hospital, Altoona, PA.

September 1977 to November 1987: Medical Technologist, Nuclear Medicine Department, Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital, Johnstown, PA. Performed both scanning and radioimmunoassay procedures.

November 1987 to July 1988: Medical Technologist, Chemistry Department, Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital, Johnstown, PA.

September 1989 to present: Biology Laboratory Instructor, University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown Campus, Johnstown, PA.

Professional Development and Achievements

Member of American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Pennsylvania Society of Medical Technology and the Nuclear Medicine Society during tenure as hospital employee. Attended numerous conventions, seminars and workshops during this time.

1991: Co-awarded a $1600 Category IV grant with Dr. Kenneth Kerrick for the purchase of a scanning densitometer for the Cell Biology Lab.

1992: Attended a 100 hour laboratory course entitled: Introduction of Molecular Biology into the Undergraduate Curriculum at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

1993: Attended the follow up workshop of the Laboratory Molecular Course in La Crosse, WI. At that workshop was the recipient of the Promega Award, given for the best course utilization of the material presented at the 1992 Intro. of Molecular Biology course. Received a financial award from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Alumni Association to purchase equipment for the Molecular Laboratory Techniques course introduced at Pitt-Johnstown. Presented two workshops at the UPJ Science on Saturday seminar in October of 1993.

1994: Attended a hands-on workshop concerning polymerase chain reaction procedures in Philadelphia, PA. Presented two workshops for UPJ's Science on Saturday.

1996: Attended another follow-up workshop on Laboratory Techniques in Molecular Biology at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, WI. Was again a presenter for UPJ's Science on Saturday Seminar.

1997: Awarded a Category IV Grant to purchase kits for evaluation in implementation of a course in immunology laboratory techniques. Attended a Chautauqua Course entitled: Principles of Protein Biochemistry and Immunobiotechnology.

1998: Recipient of the Edward Vizzini Award for Teaching Excellence in the University of Pittsburgh @ Johnstown's Natural Sciences Division. Attended a Chautauqua Course entitled: Molecular Microbiology: Pathogenesis, Diagnosis and Molecular Typing in Atlanta GA. Presented a workshop for UPJ's Science on Saturday.

1999: Presented a workshop for UPJ's Science on Saturday.

2000: Attended the state meeting of the Pennsylvania Society of Clinical Laboratory Science in Harrisburg, PA. Participated in a CIDDE workshop on "Writing in the Disciplines".

2001: Attended a Chautauqua Course entitled: Using Science to Solve Crimes in Memphis, TN.

Also have presented numerous lectures and workshops at area schools on topics such as electrophoresis, careers in Biology, aseptic techniques in microbiology and DNA extraction.

Extracurricular Activities

1990 to present: Meals on Wheels volunteer.

1996 to present: Faculty advisor to the UPJ Allied Health Club.

1992 to present: various positions on the UPJ Women's Association executive board, including President of the organization. Presently ex officio President.

2001: New member of the Hooversville Lions Club.
