oAo Rules and Systems

The link below in green is an initial attempt to condense and streamline the existing rules, systems, and standards of oAo into a more readable and searchable document. This effort is mostly, but not yet entirely, complete. For example, the Privateers section has not yet been folded into the new Rule Book.

As expected, compiling the Rule Book into one document has produced a large document. You can, of course, read the entire Rule Book from beginning to end, and even long-time participants in oAo are encouraged to do so. If your goal is to look up specific topics in the Rule Book, it is advised that you perform a keyword search using <Ctrl-f>. That will guide you to all mentions of the word(s). I’m sure that you will find that the most efficient way of navigating to the sections that you want to find.

The Rule Book mostly incorporates the text from Bo’s original pages from the Speedgeezer’s site. Changes in wording are done primarily to make more logical use of the outlined format and to clarify certain passages that were unclear. Some changes have been made to the substance of the rules (for example, the sections on in-game chat and loaner cars), but mostly they remain the same.

Big changes have been made to the rules regarding protests. (Section IV.I : Protests, Stewards, and Penalties)

Chief Race Steward, Bob Holada, and I have for a long time been discussing shortcomings in the old rules and have come to the same conclusion: that the availability of koin damages has inspired teams to file more protests than should be. Economic desperation of the kind that was experienced in Season 24 makes teams more likely to file protests based on economic need rather than on transgressions of the principles of racing. It is hoped that the elimination of fines paid to the injured party will reduce the number of protests. Please familiarize yourself with Section IV.I to get an idea of what to expect.

Transcribing the oAo Rule Book is a work in progress. Section IV.I in particular will doubtlessly see expansion and modification even as Season 25 progresses. Meanwhile, if you want to view the original pages from which the above Rule Book was transcribed, please see the links below.
