13. Recognize and Forgive Humans
- Applications must recognize and forgive human characteristics and limitations
- Example: Display lists of options or valid values so user will not need to memorize large amounts of information (recognition is simpler than recall)
- Place graphical objects appropriately
- Example: if buttons are placed too closely, users may accidentally click the wrong icon.
- Accepted standards have passed usability tests
- When a user does make a mistake, the application should handle it gracefully
- Example: Provide “undo” function
