This course is predicated on a few assumptions about your knowledge of the World Wide Web. First, this course will not be about how the web works or how to browse through it. Nor will the course cover how to use the web in your classroom. These are all excellent topics for other courses. When you enter this course, it is assumed that you have a basic familiarity with the World Wide Web and have done some browsing out there. You should also have a basic knowledge of what URLs are, how to use a browser and search engines. Most of this information is covered in other basic courses or you can find a good review at http://L2L.ed.psu.edu/linktuts/bgtoc.htm.
Effective web sites are always the result of careful planning. It may appear that the creation of a site is just so much programming or "playing around" on a computer, but the key is really a lot of paper planning beforehand. In this module you will learn much of the basic planning skills as well as find out about some of the limits which constrain your ability to create web pages. You will also start the paper planning process by creating a sitemap and storyboard to make the process of writing HTML much easier. Here are a few general objectives of this module.
