The Selected Writings of Christine de Pizan: A Norton Critical Edition

by RENATE BLUMENFELD-KOSINSKI

New York: W.W. Norton, 1997

Christine de Pizan (1364-1430) was a very prolific writer who composed twenty-five major works. Substantial parts of eighteen of those are presented and translated in this volume. (Three of the translations are by Kevin Brownlee.) Seven critical essays by leading scholars in Christine de Pizan studies shed light on the many different aspects of Christine's works, such as her situation of an Italian-born female writer in male dominated French society; her early feminism; and her role as a political writer.
