Reading Myth: Classical Mythology and Its Interpretations in Medieval French
Literature.
by RENATE BLUMENFELD-KOSINSKI

Reading Myth explores the appropriation and transformation of
classical myth (mostly Ovidian) by medieval culture. It looks at five
turning points in the reception and interpretation of mythical stories:
the 12th-century romances of antiquity; the 13th-century Roman de la Rose;
the 14th-century Ovide moralisé; the poetic works of Guillaume de
Machaut and Jean Froissart; and at the varied literary production of
Christine de Pizan.
