Cholesterol and Risk Evaluation
We invite you to consider participating in the Cholesterol and
Risk Evaluation (C.A.R.E.) Project - a medical study of
individuals with high cholesterol levels. During screening for the study,
you will receive a personal assessment of your overall risk of heart disease.
If you have high cholesterol, you will be given a commonly prescribed
cholesterol-lowering medication or a placebo (a pill without medication)
for six months.
The purpose of the C.A.R.E. Project is to study the relationship
between blood cholesterol levels, quality of life, and related measures of
attention, memory, and problem solving.
Benefits you would receive from participating ......
- Breakdown of cholesterol results including LDL (bad), HDL (good),
and triglyceride levels.
- Meet with study physician twice to discuss your risk of heart disease,
interpret your cholesterol levels, and review your treatment options.
- Diabetes screening.
- Careful blood pressure measurements taken on several occasions.
- Most likely receive a popular and expensive cholesterol-lowering
medication free of cost for six months.
- Computerized diet assessment.
- Parking or public transportation costs paid for each visit.
- At the end of the study, you will be compensated $300.
Who is Eligible?
Any adult who is in generally good health and is between the ages of 35
and 70 may be eligible. Some prescription medications and health problems
may limit eligibility. If you are interested in participating in the C.A.R.E.
