Textbook: Biology. Campbell, Reece and Mitchell. Fifth edition
Course Description: This is the second part of a two semester course in
introductory biology. It is intended
for science majors and will cover basic concepts necessary for other
upper-level courses. Areas covered in
this course will include animal taxonomy, plant structure/function and animal
structure/function
Student Evaluation: Students will be graded in
three different areas. First, quizzes
and exams will be given in class throughout the semester. The material for quizzes and exams will come
from lecture notes, textbook reading and other material assigned during the
course. Second, assignments will also
be assigned during the semester. Third,
class participation will also be assessed.
The grading scale will be as follows: Points will be assigned as follows:
90-100% A 100
points Quizzes
80-89% B 400 points Exams
70-79% C 75 points Assignments
60-69% D 25 points Class
Participation
59 or below F 600
points Total Points
Attendance: Attendance is recommended
during lecture. There will be no
make-up quizzes or exams unless the student is granted an excused absence by
the instructor. An excused absence will
only be granted for extreme circumstances and is contigent upon
verification. All make-ups will be
essay format. Absolutely no homework
will be accepted after the due date for any reason.
