Abstract: Under a common view, the truth of scientific explanations is what is conducive of genuine scientific understanding, and hence of substantial epistemic value. Under such a view, the epistemic value of false theories is seriously restricted. I intend to articulate a notion of understanding that false scientific theories can afford, such that such theories retain substantial epistemic value.
