Good For Real: The Evolution of Human Moral Psychology and, Getting What We Pay For: Changing Incentives, Transformative Research, and the Closing of the Scientific Mind
Kyle Stanford is a Professor in the Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science at the University of California, Irvine. He is the author of Exceeding Our Grasp: Science, History, and the Problem of Unconceived Alternatives (2006, OUP) and articles on a range of subjects in the philosophy of science (esp. scientific realism and instrumentalism), history and philosophy of biology, philosophy of language, and the history of early modern philosophy. He has served as a member of the PSA Governing Board and is currently an Associate Editor for the journal Philosophy of Science. While in Pittsburgh, Kyle will be at work on two projects: one concerning the evolution of human moral psychology and the other concerning the ways in which the changing incentives offered for conducting particular kinds of scientific work have influenced the creativity and character of the scientific enterprise over the course of its history. He also plans to play poker, basketball, and guitar (all quite badly) with as many members of the Pittsburgh philosophy of science community as possible.
