The Paul Newman Page: Everything Newman

Hey!  Newman here.  This was me at 27, the day that I defended my Ph.D. dissertation, February 14, 1996.  Yeah, I know, I've gotten even uglier (though skinner)...very funny.  I did my grad work at the University of Kentucky, and got my B.A. in History from York College of Pennsylvania in 1990.  My High School years were passed at Our Lady of Good Counsel H.S. after 8 years at St. Mary's Elementary School in Rockville, MD--my hometown.  I was born on May 28, 1968, in Washington, D.C.   I've got two adorable kids that I love to pieces (Forrest 8-12-94 and Leo 6-25-99).  I have been teaching Early American History at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown since August, 1995, and I'm the Advisor to Phi Alpha Theta and History Club (since '96), Delta Sigma Chi Fraternity (since '99), and Campus Greens (since '03).  I also serve on several UPJ Committees and together with Dr. Dan Santoro, I offer an annual free film series in the Fall term called "Hollywood's American History."  My new book is titled Fries's Rebellion: The Enduring Struggle for the American Revolution, check it out why don'tcha?

When I'm not ranting and raving at freshpersons or jumping up and down on seminar tables I enjoy: playing hide and seek,  building spaceships, telling stories, biking, camping, Beethoven's 9th, NFL and college football, Dr. Seuss, pistachioes, beef, sleeping-in, playing with Maggie (my puddy-tat), old-time country music, cold beer, American Chopper, burnin' stuff, really good Bourbon, licorice, going home, fishing, the New York Times, chess, gardening, amusement parks, the Discovery Channel, the Atkins Diet, old movies, new razor blades, NPR, cheese, Kentucky Basketball, chasing Raphael (my box turtle), museums, ghosts,  monkeys, feeding Orlando (my Beta Fish), Netflix, raising awareness about Autism, swingsets, Sponge Bob Squarepants, trying to lick my elbow, the Sopranos, school plays, Monster House, Jazz, drive-ins, dragging UPJ students all across the country in a van, Dexter's Laboratory, Chinese food, Teacher's Pet, John Cusack movies, crossword puzzles, While You Were Out, Dead Irish Blues, a good morning stretch, playing catch, stargazing, Michael Moore Movies, long walks, short piers, milk and pork rinds, 1940s cartoons, Trading Spaces, Chalupas, everything at the beach (especially Thrasher's French Fries in O.C., MD!), horse tracks, reading history books, hard core old Catholic churches, St. David's Lutheran Church in Davidsville, hot tubs, Washington Redskins Football, teasing Mary Claire (my obnoxious big sister), cheap cigars, my leather couch, the mountains, miniature golf, antiquing, excursions to the dump, the Haven, spending time with my students, laughing with my parents, doing anything with Forrest and Leo, and making them smile.

Leo is an adorable little boy, now five years old with abounding energy and a passion for Spiderman, dinosaurs, Buzz Lightyear, his trampoline, and the Incredible Hulk.  Leo is an Autistic person.  To learn more about Autism, see the Autism Society of America's web-site.  Forrest, my ten year old, is into Chess, Soccer, Yugi-Oh, and building anything with any materials (especially legos), GameBoy Advanced, Playstation 2, Gamecube, watching way too much TV, Bush-bashing (he HATES Dubya!), and his backyard dirt pile (every boy deserves a dirt pile).
