Welcome to my Engineering Webpage, my name is Ryan Roseweir.

This web page is being written as a requirement for my ENGR0011 class but the content in this page is mine and what is posted is my choice and is not the position of the University and does not reflect the University policies.

I am a freshman student at the University of Pittsburgh. The University of Pittsburgh was always my first choice when considering my college education. My mother attended the university and still returns and supports it to this day. Similarly, the Swanson School of Engineering (SSOE) presented the incredible opportunity to earn a world class education and establish a network of connections through their cooperative program and student organizations. Engineering opens pathways to almost all fields of study and provides the education to make highly educated connections to help bring the world and the sciences closer together. After careful thought and consideration, I believe that the most ideal major for myself is bioengineering due to my love of life sciences, desire to pursue my dream of medical school, and current economic opportunities that the field has to offer.

In the future, hope to become a doctor and continue my family tradition of working in the medical field. My mother and all four of her sisters made a living in the field and dedicated their lives to helping others. My cousin explained to me that bioengineers may be more attractive to medical schools than regular biology majors due to the extra engineering background. In a world as competitive as the one we live in today, I want to develop as much skill and knowledge as possible through education in as many different fields as I can. Unlike biology majors, bioengineers are required to take more physics and math courses in which they are able to evaluate information and research from more angles which can be useful when continuing on to medical school.

I am excited to be at Pitt and look forward to my future here. I love the city and look forward to everything that the University and the Swanson School have to offer me.

Things I Like To Do

In my free time, I love to participate in sports, particulary basektball and football. I have played both since a very young age and continue to play through intramurals here at Pitt. Also, I love to listen to music. While my favorite genre is probably hip-hop/R&B, I like all kinds of music except country. In addition I am an avid Pitt sports fan similar to my mother and love going to athletic events.

Interesting Professional Societies

Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES)

  • Members of Society
    • The society boasts over 7,000 members and continues to grow rapidly.
    • It is composed of students, professors, and professional bioengineers.
  • Services of BMES
    • The goal of the society is to promote and enhance knowledge and education in biomedical engineering and bioengineering throughout the world and how it is used to improve human health.
    • There is a yearly meeting that offers more than 2,000 scientific presentations, a career fair, and many networking sessions.
  • Joining BMES
    • I would like to join this society because I want to be a bioengineer and eventually continue onto medical school.
    • You can join too by clicking here.

Why I Love College

  • I grew up in the city of Pittsburgh and fell in love the university. It has always been a dream of mine to go to Pitt.
  • I love meeting new people and trying new things, and college provides many new opportunities to be successful for the the rest of your life, especially at Pitt.
  • I enjoy new challenges, so instead of a difficult load of classwork and studying I see opportunities to expand my knowledge and become a better student.

Jobs I Would Like To Do When I Grow Up

  • Anesthesiologist
  • Bioengineer
  • Microbiologist

Things I Have Learned In College

  • Time is valuble, and the ability to manage it well will allow you to become successful throughout life.
  • College is the time to emerge as a fully independent adult, so you must trust yourself to make wise decisions and learn from your mistakes.
  • Enjoy college and allow yourself to relax. If you feel stressed or overwhelemed take a small break and return to the material later.
