Mathematics Competition
This activity is designed to support a mathematics problem solving
activity conducted and judge here at Pitt. It will take very little
time as the solutions are provided for posting after attempts are made.
The activity was created so it could be implemented by a student math
organization. We will post problems and then solutions each month.
Winners will receive a certificate for the problem. At the end of the
semester, the chair of the math department will receive an invitation
to send the top problem solver at Pitt to The U.S. National Collegiate
Mathematics Championship. The championship will be held in Knoxville,
Tennessee during Mathfest 2006.
Rules:
You must be an undergraduate enrolled in coursework at Pitt. Write your
solutions clearly and show all your work. If there is more than one
sheet, secure the pages together. Deliver your solutions to Professor
Beatrous via the Mathematics Department secretary in Thackeray 301. In
order to be considered, your solution must be received by 5 pm on the
deadline date below.
Over for the school year. Congratulations to all those who submitted correct answers.
