The Tau Beta Pi Association was founded at Lehigh University in 1885 by Edward Higginson Williams, Jr. to mark in a fitting manner those who have conferred honor upon their Alma Mater by distinguished scholarship and exemplary character as students in engineering, or by their attainments as alumni in the field of engineering, and to foster a spirit of liberal culture in engineering colleges.
The Pennsylvania Lambda Chapter of Tau Beta Pi is dedicated to the recognition of engineering scholars at the University of Pittsburgh and professional improvement of its members through seminars, professional, service, and social events.
Besides holding monthy general body meetings, TBP has several events in each of the following categorias every semester.
Members can keep up with all the events by joining the Facebook group or subscribing to our
.
If you would like to help plan events with TBP but aren't an officer, attend a general body meeting!
As a TBP member, you are eligible to apply for several scholarships. Juniors may apply for the "TBP Scholarship", worth $2,000; Graduating seniors seeking to further their education may apply for the "TBP Fellowship", worth $10,000; All members may apply for the "TBP Loan", worth up to $2,500.
TBP provides many opportunities for students to develop their professional side while still in school. From expanding members' professional networks to resume workshops, TBP is dedicated towards helping members manifest their professional aspirations.
TBP members not only care about their grades, but also about improving their school and their city. In the past, TBP has worked alongside SEMFS, the Freshman Engineering program, and local schools and organizations to give back to their community.
TBP members like to have fun, too. Social events not only provide a way to take a break from strenuous coursework, but also a way to meet engineers outside of your discipline.
