BA Serageldin Euclid research methods library: To achieve statistical Equity in Africa and Arab countries
We have been quite successful, with researchers in over 174 countries joining
this effort.
As indicated we have 300 donors for 13,000 books.
We have donors from Egypt, Iran, Japan, Russia, UK, and US.
We are getting more and more contributors. We have been gathering books
in different languages.
Last year we built the first interlibrary loan system in Africa using off the
shelf materials (e.g. email and google docs). This can best be described with an
example. Musa Kana from Lagos can
explore the library of Alexandria catalogue over the internet.
He will request a chapter of a book.
Within hours the chapter will be digitalized and forwarded to him.
Just recently the Library of Congress agreed to collaborate with us in
the loan of scientific materials. It is feasible now as the cost of scanning is
only 3 cents per page.
We are now spreading the word about this unique library so that all students
will have access to the power of statistical and research methods.
