In general terms, the causes of travelers� diarrhea are bacterial (up to 50% or more), viral, parasitic and occasionally biological toxins or even fungal agents. By far, the most common etiological agent identified in travelers� diarrhea is enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), which has been found to be responsible for 40-75% of cases.
