Calculated by multiplying the severe sepsis median mortality for LMICs (as noted on slide 8) by the population incidence range for severe sepsis in HICs (as noted on slide 10)  The range represents most conservative estimates of incidence (Finfer et al, 2004) which looked at treated incidence from ICU data in Aus and NZ vs. the oversestimate of Angus et al – truth is likely to lie somewhere in between..!
