La percepci�n de las necesidades, efectividad de los medicamentos, y la seguridad son factores importantes relacionados con el paciente para la adherencia a la medicaci�n. Dado que los pacientes deciden a completar su prescripci�n, se toman en cuenta la necesidad del tratamiento y la gravedad de su enfermedad. Explicar la importancia de la medicaci�n y c�mo se va a trabajar para proporcionar un beneficio terap�utico, facilita la adherencia. Adem�s, informar a los signos del paciente / familia de los posibles efectos secundarios m�s comunes y qu� s�ntomas, aumenta su sensaci�n de control y participaci�n en el manejo del proceso de medicaci�n. Instruir a los pacientes sobre la necesidad de seguimiento con los proveedores de la prescripci�n, y facilitar la obtenci�n esos nombramientos, despu�s del tratamiento inicial con nuevos medicamentos es importante para establecer la efectividad y seguridad de nuevos medicamentos y promueve la adherencia a la medicaci�n a trav�s de varios mecanismos.

Perception of need, medication effectiveness, and safety are all important patient-related factors for medication adherence.  As patients decide to fill their prescription, they take into account the necessity of treatment and the seriousness of their disease.15  Explaining the importance of the medication and how it will work to provide therapeutic benefit will facilitate adherence.  In addition, informing the patient/family of potential common side effects and what signs and symptoms to report will increase their sense of control and participation in the medication management process.21  Instructing the patients on the need to follow-up with prescribing providers, and facilitating securing such appointments, after initial treatment with new medications is important for establishing the effectiveness and safety of new medications and promotes medication adherence through several mechanisms.7
