Almost one third of cases are diagnosed among people under 45 years, in contrast to other histological types of skin tumours which are mainly diagnosed among the elderly [25].

Our results agree with other studies, where melanoma has been related more to sunburn in childhood and to infrequent sun exposure than to one's total cumulative dosage of sun exposure [18, 29].

An interesting aspect is the confirmation of the existence of higher incidence rates among females, like in other European registries� data. Incidence rates are higher in males of the United States and other non European countries, though [5, 30-32].
