More and more research is pointing out the similarities between AD and other neurodegenerative diseases.  For instance, many patients with Parkinson�s Disease develop dementia and have neurofibrillary tangles and amyloid plaques.

Because the number of patients that show signs of both AD and Parkinson�s is so high, some researchers have suggested that they are the same disease occurring over a broad spectrum.
