Background

There is a great deal of interest at the moment in the economic aspects of diabetes. This is due to;

At the Third European Meeting for the Implementation of the St. Vincent Declaration (Athens, Greece) in March 1995, there was enthusiam for the establishment of a world-wide Diabetes Health Economics Study Group to address these issues. This concept is also backed by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF).


Aim of the Study Group

To contribute to the current understanding of diabetes care from an economic perspective, and to serve as a global network for the development and application of health economic research methods with respect to diabetes.


Objectives

  1. To establish a world-wide network of people interested and engaged in the economics of diabetes and diabetes care

  2. To promote discussion of and collaboration in research about the economics of diabetes and diabetes care

  3. To gather, evaluate, and distribute reports on the outcomes of discussion, collaboration and research in this field. A current bibliography of papers on diabetes and health economics is available: Diabetes Health Economics Bibliography

  4. To work with decision-makers, health care providers, and payers to implement and evaluate research findings
