A Message for Prospective PMMD Lab Applicants:

We welcome your application to the PMMD Lab. However, before you apply, it is essential that you have a well-defined and resolute career goal related to pursuing a Ph.D. or postdoc fellowship in materials science.

If you are uncertain about your future aspirations or your motivations for doctoral or postdoc research in this field, we recommend that you do not contact us at this time. Our experience has shown that candidates with ambiguous career goals often face significant challenges after they are accepted. While we are proud of our many success stories, we have also learned that unclear objectives can lead to unfavorable outcomes.

Therefore, we strongly encourage you to reflect on your motivations and goals before engaging with our research group.

How to join us?

Step 1: Preparation

Please learn about the research at the PMMD lab from this website. Please make sure to visit the opening page to learn about different opportunities. If you are applying for the PhD program, we recommend you contact Dr. Wei Xiong directly before you submit your application online through the graduate admission system.

Step 2: Contact Us

If you are a student at Pitt, please feel free to book a time with Prof. Wei Xiong for a discussion in his office. If you are applying for a graduate or postdoc position, please make sure to contact Prof. Xiong with the required documents in the email. Please understand that we will not be able to reply to every email, especially if you do not have a good fit or if the requested documents (all of your study transcripts, CV, and a cover letter) are not provided in the email.

Step 3: Interview

Usually, we will have two interview sessions to ensure the best fit. We hope that the PMMD Lab is the one you want to spend time with. We understand that we will be together for several golden years, and thus want to make sure the choice is the best for each other.
