Uses Materials for use in publication including websites, exhibition, or any other public purpose require written permission of the Center for American Music. To request permission, please fill out the Center for American Music Usage Agreement form. All proposed commercial use of photographs and media must be stated in advance. A fee will be charged for all commercial use approved by the Center for American Music. Use of materials from the Center for American Music does not imply that the Center endorses the product, enterprise, opinions, or confirms the accuracy of any content in the publication or production. Rights Permission may be granted upon request for a one-time, non-exclusive use of photographs or media for publication, exhibition, documentary creation, or other purpose if the proposed use is specified and approved. Any subsequent use of a photograph or the media will require separate permission from the Center for American Music and may require payment of a separate use fee. Proper credit (Foster Hall Collection, Center for American Music, University of Pittsburgh Library System) must always be given. Any person, publication, or production company not meeting this requirement may be denied further use of the collections. The person, publisher, or production company who requests permission to use a photograph or other media in their project is responsible for providing the Center for American Music with verification that proper use and credit has been made as specified in the original request and for which permission to use was granted. One copy of the completed work is considered fulfillment of the verification requirement. The University of Pittsburgh reserves the right, at its discretion and without explanation, to limit the number of copies, retain the negatives, restrict the use or further reproduction of rare and valuable material, make special quotations on material involving unusual circumstances, and refuse requests that would risk damage to the original or (in the University's opinion) be inappropriate. The copyright law of the U.S. (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to make a photocopy or reproduction. One of the specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. Ordering All requests for photographic and media reproductions are filled in the order they are received. Search requests must be specific as to the intended use of the photograph, e.g., book, journal, magazine, website, exhibit, etc.In order to place an order, please fill out the Center for American Music reproduction request form. Photograph and media duplication costs and search fees must be paid by cash, check, or money order. Checks and money orders should be made payable to the University of Pittsburgh.
