Ever since its official discovery in 1976, Teyuna or Ciudad Perdida has provided a clear example of the fascination that the past has in contemporary society. It is also a place filled with deep silence and wide gaps in our knowledge of the history of a territory inhabited for thousands of years before the arrival of the first Europeans in the New World. Compared to other prehispanic societies of Central and South America, little is known of the Tairona, although archaeological research in the Park and other parts of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is providing new and valuable data. This guide has as its objective to provide visitors with basic information on the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, its ancient inhabitants, the history of Teyuna/Ciudad Perdida and its discovery.
