Hi, I am Jean Benthien, CRNP, Director of Health Services at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU)Wellness Center. This article will introduce you to our new (1 year old) Wellness Center, but first I would like to give you a bit of history of the campus and the health service.

To procede on the tour of the Wellness Center, complete with pictures of the following areas, simply click on the following selections:

Hope you have enjoyed your tour of our Wellness Center. It has brought us great joy. Issues of cleanliness, confidentiality, professional standards, and livability have been met with this facility. Counseling and Health Services have learned to work together as a team and become one unit. Visibility and credibility have been enhanced. Visit anytime and we will treat you to Starbucks coffee served next door!

Be sure to visit us also on our web site: www.ptloma.edu/studentdevelopment/wellnesscenter/
Unlike the Wellness Center, the web site will always be under construction and changing often! My email address is jbenthie@ptloma.edu if you have any comments or questions.

Editor's Note:

I had the privilege of visiting the Wellness Center at Point Loma when the ACHA meeting was held in San Diego in June 1998. The spectacular sunset view of the vast Pacific ocean is a memory I cherish. I found the entire campus to be beautiful and inspiring.

On the lawn near the road by the Commons building is an impressive bronze metal sculpture of Jesus calling Peter. The boat, the nets, the reaching hand of Jesus, and the facial expressions of the characters portrayed in this sculpture are extraordinary. Like the sunset on the Pacific Ocean, it is something I want to keep in my memory.

Jean's new health center is every nurse director's dream...and then some! But as I reflect on the tour of her health center, and the wonderful dinner and hospitality we were shown, what impressed me the most was the warm welcome and hospitality we received from Jean and her staff.

I think that one of the most important things we can offer to students in college health is a warm, welcoming, caring atmosphere whenever they come into the health center--whether the building is old or new. The new building at Point Loma adds credibility, visibility and professional atmosphere to a health care setting which already features a welcoming, educated, and caring professional staff...who have a special calling. In my opinion, it just doesn't get any better than that!

Congratulations, Jean, on your new Wellness Center, and on 22 dedicated and wonderful years of caring service in college health!
