dog tooth: an ornamental motif consisting of a square, four-leafed figure, the center of which projects in a point. It was a very popular in Early English (Early Gothic) architecture.
Other decorative motifs: acanthus, ball flower, bead and reel, beak head, billet molding, chevron, diaper, egg and dart, Greek Key, lozenge, nailhead, scrollwork, twisted ribbon.
