Resilient Economy Lab

Introduction

The Resilient Economy Lab in the School of Computing and Information at the University of Pittsburgh researches how technology is reshaping skill demands and altering the future of work. Our interdisciplinary team explores the intersection of technology, economics, and workforce development to provide insights into the evolving landscape of employment and skills. We prioritize creative data-driven analysis that cuts through buzz and hyperbole to achieve real-world actionable insights.

The lab is run by Prof. Morgan R. Frank from Pitt's Department of Informatics and Networked Systems. He also maintains external affiliations with Stanford University's Digital Economy Lab and MIT's Media Laboratory. Morgan's research has appeared in top academic journals, including Science, Nature Communications, and PNAS, and yielded policy impact through presentations at US Federal Reserve Banks and expert testimony for the Canada House of Commons.

The Resilient Economy Lab is highly collaborative with both industry and policy actors. The Lab currently maintains relationships with FutureFit AI, Revelio Labs, and the Open Syllabus Project. The Lab's research has influenced policy design in Canada's House of Commons and received discussion in the Biden Administration's Council of Economic Advisors annual report. Current academic collaborations include researchers from the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, Chapman University, and Case Western Reserve University.
