Eugene (Gene) W. Duston, President, Duston
Consulting Services, Inc., serves as Project Manager on all DCS, Inc.
projects, and as lead consultant for the engagement, conducting orientation
meetings, conducting employee interviews, writing class specifications,
directing and participating in the conduct of the salary survey, making
recommendations for classifications developed, reviewing all classifications
for FLSA status, preparing draft and final reports, and conducting training
in job description writing, employee performance evaluation, and
administration of the classification and compensation plan.
Mr. Duston holds two master's degrees--a masters in education (MEd) from
Wayne State (Michigan) University and a Masters of Public Administration (MPA)
from the University of Michigan, with a specialty in local government human
resources administration.
After 35 years in public education, Mr. Duston formed Duston Consulting
Services, Inc., in 1994. For the six years preceding formation of DCS, he
served as Branch Manager, Classification and Organizational Services for
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) with responsibility for all
classification and compensation plans covering all 23,400 FCPS employees.
Mr. Duston has served as a school based non-athletic student activities
administrator and classroom teacher (FCPS and South Redford, MI, Schools).
For 20 years of his public education career, Mr. Duston also moonlighted as
an independent contractor with a national consulting firm, managing or
participated in over 100 consulting projects for school divisions, cities,
counties, and special agencies.
During his tenure as a teacher with the South Redford, Michigan, School
District, Mr. Duston served one term as Township Trustee, Redford Township,
( an elective position in a community of 80,000 ).
Mr. Duston has authored a publication for the American Association of School
Personnel Administrators (AASPA), ADA Sensitive Job Descriptions for School
Districts (which includes a series of performance oriented sample position
descriptions), and has made presentations at national and regional AASPA
conferences.
