About Carolyn Casavan

Carolyn graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1979. At that time, women in business had few role models. In her first job, she was one of 3 female engineers at a Mobil Oil research campus in New Jersey with 900 technical staff. She also worked at Mobil’s catalyst manufacturing facility in Beaumont, Texas as one of 2 female engineers. Yes, being a female engineer was a challenge. But in many ways, it was a benefit. Instead of following in the footsteps of others, she went with her instincts and took a natural approach to engineering. This led to her focus on sustainable solutions throughout her work as CEO of West Coast Environmental and Engineering, President of the San Fernando Valley Green Team, and current Principal Engineer of Casavan Consulting.
